The ELAROS team came together for our annual Winter Planning Day, an important moment for reflection, collaboration, and shaping our strategy for 2026 and beyond.

The morning opened with a presentation from Blesson Ezra who shared progress from our South Yorkshire Innovation Programme wearables project and outlined next-stage plans for large-scale validation. Scarlett Shaw and Michalina Gers then showcased how AI could improve clinical insight generation, automate task management, and help users track symptom patterns, predict relapses, and receive personalised support.

The afternoon moved into strategic planning led by Professor Paul O’ Brien who outlined the external healthcare landscape, shifts towards home-based care, digital transformation, prevention-focused pathways, NHS economic pressures, and what this means for ELAROS in 2026. We were then joined by Simon Monaghan (Innovate UK Business Growth), who facilitated a forward-looking session to map ELAROS’s development over the next five years, including opportunities in new condition areas, new venture structures, and international funding routes.

It was a valuable and energising day, a reminder of how much we achieved in 2025 and how much opportunity lies ahead. Thank you to our team, partners, and invited contributors for shaping such an engaging and ambitious agenda!

In January, a team of nine ELAROS colleagues travelled to Italy for a four-day programme to meet with one of our longest-standing partners, Umbria Bioengineering Technologies—a leading Italian university spin-out with whom we have collaborated for over seven years.

Our partnership has been instrumental in delivering two ongoing EU Horizon 2020 projects, as well as the recently launched Innovate UK Exchange Programme. This latest visit, made possible through the guidance of our fantastic advisor, Simon Monaghan (Senior Innovation and Growth Specialist) and Innovate UK’s Business Growth Global Explorers programme, provided a valuable opportunity to further develop our commercial collaboration.

ELAROS and UBT worked together on consolidating commercial roadmaps for two innovative screening products—BrainWave and LungWave—which ELAROS will provide connectivity for. Discussions also focused on the €7 million MammoWave project, an ongoing collaboration with partners across Europe.

This visit reaffirmed the strength of our relationship with Umbria Bioengineering Technologies, and together, we have established a framework for a partnership that is set to thrive for at least the next 10 years.

A special thank you to Innovate UK’s Business Growth Global Explorers programme, which continues to be an invaluable resource for UK high-tech companies looking to expand their international collaborations.

In early December, ELAROS held its Annual Winter Planning Day, bringing together our dedicated team alongside PhD researchers Bárbara Silva-Passadouro (University of Leeds) and Owain Medford (University of Huddersfield), as well as our Neu-Restore Scientific Director, Thomas Richards.

The day began with a strategic session focused on ELAROS’ growth plans for 2025, where we set clear objectives to enhance innovation, expand our impact, and strengthen collaborations in digital health.

The afternoon featured inspiring keynote presentations from our esteemed guest speakers who shared insights into cutting-edge research and industry advancements:

• Adam Lockhart introduced an innovative, non-invasive early screening method for Parkinson’s.
• Dr Ellen Buckley (University of Sheffield) presented her research on using wearable sensors to assess mobility performance in real-world settings.
• Jeremy Gee (Airedale NHS Foundation Trust) showcased the outcomes of various pilot studies utilising the C19-YRS platform.
• Simon Monaghan (Senior Innovation and Growth Specialist, Innovate UK Business Growth) provided an overview of the UK Government’s funding landscape and opportunities for innovation.

The event also provided a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with ELAROS’ first two team members—Dr Angel Jimenez-Aranda (now Associate Professor at the University of Salford) and Dr Claire Horton (Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber)—alongside our software developers James McMunn and Lakshitha Kumaranayake.

This year’s Winter Planning Day was a valuable opportunity to celebrate our achievements in 2024, strengthen partnerships, and set the foundation for a successful and impactful 2025.

In May 2024, ELAROS was lucky to join the rest of the MammoScreen Project partners in at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal for a bi-annual MammoScreen Consortium meeting. Multiple ELAROS colleagues including CEO Paul O’Brien, Jennifer McDonald, Oscar Petherick, Toby Boud and Oliwia Zwara attended, alongside special guests Professor Jennie Wilson from the University of West London and Wendy Watson MBE from the Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline.

The week’s itinerary included a consortium meeting, stakeholder workshop and a poster presentation, where we showcased our work on the MammoScreen app. This event provided a valuable opportunity to connect and catch up with all the project partners on their contributions. We also got to see a demonstration of the MammoWave technology, currently undergoing a clinical trial involving 10,000 women across five countries.

Most importantly, ELAROS hosted an in-person PPIE workshop and an international online workshop focusing on the co-creation of the Lite app and full app.  These sessions were essential for refining the app’s design and functionality to meet users needs.

ELAROS is very greatful to all to all participants for their invaluable feedback, and to EVITA and Humanized Solutions for co-hosting these workshops with us.

On the 15th of April 2024 ELAROS was named one of the five winners nationally of the SBRI project funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Department of Health and Social Care.

This funding will support ELAROS to deliver the ‘Open-OH’ project aimed at improving in-work health services as part of a government drive to tackle inactivity through an Innovate UK Contracts for Innovation grant.

This opportunity will enable us to accelerate the development and launch of a smart digital occupational health solution for people with Long Covid and other long-term conditions on their rehabilitation journey, recognising the estimated 1.9 million people with LC in the UK, many of whom are significantly impacted at work.

Although, there is a lot of hard work ahead of ELAROS with our early adopters and advisory board, the whole team is immensely excited to see this innovation come to life in the hands of people that need it most.
