ELAROS is happy to announce its strategic partnership with the University of Huddersfield (UoH) to start work on the development of the Smart Hydration Coaster. As part of this agreement, ELAROS will part-fund a new PhD position at the University that will take the technical side of this work forward. In November 2022 Owain Medford was appointed by the UoH onto the project and has already provided an overview of his plans for the next 12 months.

Owain’s background is in computing and technology having completed a BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the UoH. For his BEng Owain used an off the shelf dust sensor and microcontroller to remotely measure the volume of chalk within an indoor climbing gym over the internet. The project was able to measure how high the quantity of harmful particulate sizes in the gym’s air is.

Owain’s work through his PhD on the Smart Hydration Coaster will help to spearhead ELAROS’s first move into the Internet of Things (IoT) which will be a way for building further significant value into ELAROS’s products as we also move into the use of ‘wearables’ for capturing vital-signs data on our Long Covid system and others.
